I thought it was perfect for our little family trip. My husband I took our 3 kids over NYE. We had a loft room and loved that the kids had their own little loft above us. The kids called it Great Wold Lodge (that's a good thing :). Its about a 1/2 mile up to skiing which wasn't a problem for us. We loved breakfast. It was tasty and better than the Holiday Inn (lol--review below). It was kinda hard to make breakfast time and the ski school time work--you have to be there a little early for breakfast. My youngest son was having a birthday and the staff brought him a pasty-cake with candle and sang him happy birthday--so sweet. Room was mostly clean; we did have the end room which was fine but I think it made the wifi not work. That was the biggest bummer (along with LTE not working). Over all, plenty of space for 5 people. Great staff!!
Stayed here on a multi-day ski trip with a business associate. This hotel was his favorite place to stay as it sits just 4 minutes down the road from the ski resort.
The room we stayed in had a loft area accessibly by ladder, was clean and comfortable, but not overly fancy. The room included a mini-fridge and microwave.
In addition to the excellent proximity to the ski resort the hotel also had a few other things going for it. A nice hot tub which I used one night, meeting people from several states, a nice breakfast nook that overlooked the parking lot and main road out front for coffee in the morning, and a European resort feel throughout the building.
Pretty good. Decent value.
Makes for a good quiet stay, romantic getaway, or ski trip hotel. I would consider this hotel again when visiting Taos.
The building has a unique look as the rooms and exterior have a triangle wood beams construction, and a German and Swedish looking decor throughout the hotel.
While the location is near the ski resort it is a bit out of town, so while this is ideal for those there to ski, or those wanting to stay in the mountains, it makes going into town for dinner or evening activities a little bit of a task.
I've been on many ski trips and Austing Haus has been the best so far. The owner cooks breakfast, which is delicious, and drives a private shuttle to the slopes only 5 min up the mountain. Austing Haus is very laid back. Housekeeping not only kept our room spotless, but they folded my clothes and washed my sox...they washed my sox!..I cried I little. Austing Haus is very affordable and feels like an extension of your home...with clean sox.
